“Treadmill Girl” swears on national radio after winning Taylor Swift tickets
When she won tickets to a Taylor Swift concert in Singapore, UC student Shivon Hanham cried and swore on live radio, and even claimed the nickname “Treadmill Girl”.
For competition entry, fans would request to join The Edge’s Instagram live, and those who were accepted would be in the draw to win the in-demand tickets.
Hanham’s trip to the gym did not stop her from trying to get in the draw, as she was accepted onto the livestream whilst jogging on the treadmill.
Overwhelmed with exhilaration, Hanham cried as she attempted to keep jogging, despite the fact the tickets were not yet hers.
A few days before the announcement, The Edge had called Hanham to ask where she would be at 8am on February 20, the time the winner was being visited.
“I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but I ended up convincing myself it could be me and manifesting it could happen,” Hanham said.
Heading back to the gym, Hanham anxiously tried to train while listening to the radio, but the reminder of the announcement taunted her and her desperation. Once The Edge announced live on air that the winner was from Ōtautahi Christchurch, she bolted to the changing rooms, then eagerly woke up her flatmate who was also in the draw.
“Next thing I saw was my flatmate opening the door [for The Edge] and whispering, and that’s when I yelled ‘are you taking the piss’? The feeling was indescribable.”
After having “the most intense feeling” that she was going to win the tickets, the 20-year-old was overwhelmed when The Edge turned up.
“It kind of felt like an outer body experience and unreal. I just couldn’t hold in any emotions!”
The 20-year-old explained how she’s “still waiting on [her] first hate comment”, after her reaction to winning the prize was published to The Edge’s 141,000 Instagram followers.
Despite her embarrassment regarding how much she swore, the video’s comment sections on TikTok and Instagram radiated nothing but positivity.
Hanham headed off to Singapore with her sister by her side for their first overseas holiday ever.
“We are such good mates, I wouldn’t want to experience this trip with anyone else. We have a joint love for Taylor Swift [...] since we were little kids. She got us through our breakups which we always joke about,” Hanham fondly explained.
Dropping a few shifts and getting further behind in university is a sacrifice “Treadmill Girl” was willing to make for the woman whose songs got her through those “really tough times”.
