All Blacks defeated in a historical loss at the Rugby World Cup

In a world cup pool match you wouldn’t expect to hear that the All Blacks lost. Oh wait, because it hasn’t happened before, until now.

It looked like we were going to win with Mark Telea scoring in the first minute. But the All Blacks just weren’t as clinical or consistent as the French side.

The team suffered before the game even started with injuries galore. Captain Sam Cane was subbed with Ardie Savea as Cane was struggling with a back injury. As well as Cane, Jordie Barret, Shannon Frizell and Tyrel Lomax were all out of the match due to injuries. This left a serious hole in the team.

At least the All Blacks can say they have already achieved history and have broken records in just their first match. Good records? Nope.

All I have to say is, with the Warriors and Izzy losing, RIP to New Zealand sport that week. There were multiple tough pills to swallow.

Black Caps name squad to take to the World Cup

Black Caps announced their squad to take to the World Cup with a ton of experience a key foundation of the squad.

The World Cup is being hosted by the Indian side who are currently ranked number one in the ICC rankings. The Black Caps are ranked at number five, with counter parts Australia and England taking number two and three on the board.

The squad has still has familiar faces with Kane Williamson captaining the side. New players such as All-rounder Rachin Ravindra and core batsman Will Young have been selected in their first senior world cup squads.

The newbies are balanced well with legends Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Tom Latham. Latham has also been named as vice-captain for the side in the tournament.

Hopefully they can go all the way this time, unlike the last world cup.

Coco Gauff becomes US Open Champion at 19 years old

As a current 19 year old, I have never felt less accomplished in my life hearing that Coco Gauff at the same age has a major grand slam win under her belt.

The 19 year old is currently ranked third in the world in singles, and as number one in doubles from the Women’s Tennis Association.

She managed to take the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in New York. This is just the second grand slam of her career, her last being at the French Open in 2022. Just a year later and here she is, with a title of her own.

This is the first time since Sloane Stephens in 2017 that a US tennis player won the US Open women’s title. Although she lost the first set, Gauff came back firing, shocking her opponent and in the end earning her the win.

In a very gen z manner, after the match she filmed a TikTok with the song All I do Is Win By DJ Khaled while dancing with the trophy on court. Iconic, to say the least.

Players in the Spanish football team go on strike

Predominantly in sport news recently you would have heard about the Spanish Women’s football side at one point or another. Unfortunately, it was not about their star studded Football World Cup win, but about sexism and harassment the side faces internally.

Currently, the side is pushing for a dignified minimum wage in an attempt to fight sexism rooted in the nation’s soccer federation.

This all comes after the federation was under scrutiny from essentially the whole world after the President Luis Rubiales kissed a Spanish player on the lips without her consent after they won the World Cup.

It is a huge accomplishment for the side to win the world cup for their women in their nation for the first time ever. It is a shame that it is being outshined by all the men behind the scenes apart of the federation.
