How To Survive Your First Week At Uni

  1. APPLY FOR AS MANY SCHOLARSHIPS AS YOU CAN

Seriously, there are so many and you’re pretty much guaranteed an NCEA one. Who doesn’t want free money? You’ll need it by the end of the year, trust me. Plus your first-week-booze is an important purchase.

  1. MAKE FRIENDS WITH YOUR TUTORS

While tutorials may seem like a joke, getting to know your tutors will give you an edge if you need advice, or tips on assignments etc. Moreover, come exam time these people are a wealth of knowledge.

  1. IF YOU MAKE FRIENDS AT O WEEK EVENTS, DITCH THEM AT UNI

These people are your party friends, not your uni friends.

  1. GO TO YOUR LECTURES

You’re better off going to all of your lectures at the outset of the year, and maybe missing a few toward the end. Most courses will teach the foundation theory and basics at the start, so begin with good habits. Once a few weeks have passed, ditch your lectures to your heart’s content.

  1. JOIN SOME CLUBS AT CLUBS DAYS

Not only is this a great way to get to know people but it is difficult to find out about new clubs later on in the year. Everyone is out in full-force the first week; take advantage.

  1. PLAN YOUR COURSES CAREFULLY

You only have two weeks to get them changed, and there’s nothing worse than sitting through one that you hate.
