UCSA half-AGM proves entirely uneventful; makes for bland news

Despite an unusually large agenda compared to other years, this year’s UCSA half-AGM, held last Wednesday in the AFT tent, raised no controversy of which to speak.

The meeting contained all business that would usually be considered at an AGM, such as the presentation of the previous year's financial, president's, and general manager's reports; and appointment of the association's professionals; as earthquake delays caused this to be held over from May's AGM.

All of these motions were passed unanimously, apart from one apparent joke dissent to the appointment of Lane Neave as association solicitors.

"Took you like six motions to work up the courage," UCSA President Kohan McNab said in response.
In addition, a number of constitutional changes were mooted, all of which passed unanimously.

Several of these were around the restructure of the UCSA's Commercial and Service Advisory Boards into a single board, the "Advisory Board".

This saw the UCSA President removed as chair of the board, the right of the immediate past president to sit on the board removed, and the renaming of the General Manager to "Chief Executive Officer".

In addition, a motion for the UCSA to formally revoke its membership of University Sport New Zealand, following long-term dissatisfaction with the way in which that body is administered, was passed unanimously.

Copies of the reports tabled, along with details of the amendments and resolutions passed, are available on the UCSA website.
