Blues Awards
The annual UCSA Blues Awards were held last night at Cargo Bar. Since 1914, the Blues have recognised and awarded students who excel in their chosen sport, and this year was no different, with a large field of well-deserved wins.
University of Canterbury Sports Person of the Year
Sophie Devine
This is a consecutive win for Sophie, having also received the award in 2010. She is a representative of the Black Sticks New Zealand women's hockey team, as well as a representative of the White Ferns New Zealand women's cricket team. On her win, Sophie had this to say: "Wow, I'm absolutely humbled at receiving the award - thank you very, very much! It's a huge honour."
University of Canterbury Contribution to University Sport
Victor Simpson
Victor is a former New Zealand and Canterbury representative for rugby, New Zealand Universities coach, and a university club coach. On coaching, Victor says "I believe that my role as a coach is to make the players that come under my guidance not only better rugby players, but better men."
