Battle of the Bands - The Finals
The UCSA Battle of the Bands came to a close last Thursday night at The Venue, with The Laon taking out top honours.
The judges delivering such plaudits for The Laon as:
"Rock epic style!"
"Retro keytar!"
"Modern mix on classic – an identifiable sound."
They were also praised for their opening song, playing the New Zealand National Anthem electric guitar and keytar-style, before jamming their own tunes.
In recognition of their mighty victory, the group will receive:
- A slot at the UCSA Tea Party 2011
- A CHART/Christchurch Music band mentoring package, including a “featured artist of the month” promotion, a one-on-one meeting to work on a marketing and promotion plan, industry contacts, and tailored advice from the CHART team.
- A gig at CHARTfest 2012
- Four hours of studio recording time courtesy of Angels Gate Recording Studio.
- $500 worth of air time on RDU 98.5FM to help promote a gig of their choice.
- Automatic wildcard entry into the semi-finals of RDU’s RounDUp band competition
Congratulations to The Laon, and well done to the other finalists: Hellhounds, Jimmy Leigh, Lupus Lunar, Ponzi, and The Shayna King Band.
