The Pink Palace

We had 35 complaints by 10, so they shut it down then. We have drinks every Thursday and Saturday, but flatwarming was probably the biggest. That’s what fucked everyone off; one of the neighbours went to the uni cop about it and made us write an apology letter.

We moved in just after New Year’s, after finding it on TradeMe. We hadn’t heard of the place before – we’re too young – but we found out afterwards about the reputation. When we got here the agent said “it’s quite famous,” and then when we talked to people they’re like “oh, my mate lived there two years ago” or whatever. It was in huge demand; hundred applied, we got the go-ahead.

The exterior and the amount of rooms stuck out to us, and the location. It’s a good area. It’s good having the supermarket and the 24 hour BP right there. After a night out we don’t waste time going to KFC or McDonald’s; we just get a $3 pie from BP.

We almost did a flat dinner once, but it hasn’t happened yet because we all work at different times. Midnight on Saturday is about the only time we’re all together, but that’s usually only for five minutes. Mi Goreng noodles go down a treat around here, and we have a lot of bacon and eggs. Cheaper Tuesdays at Domino’s is good, too.

We’ve all named our rooms with some graffiti over the walls. One is called “Le Hotel” because he brings girls home, and never gets it done – it’s like a hotel; girls know it’s free accommodation. There’s the Friend Zone, which is kind of the same concept as Le Hotel. There’s the Snake Pit, La Amory, The Kindergarten, La Cockpit – pretty self-explanatory, really – and the Playground.

We don’t have much in the way of soundproofing. You know what’s happening, so it’s a tight family; there’s been a lot of team bonding. High fives go down a treat.

There’s always something going down here – seven lads, one flat; you do the math. It’s the Pink Palace, isn’t it?
