Avenue 51
We’re all Lincoln students, but living in Upper Riccarton.
It’s close to everything. Everyone from Lincoln doesn’t really live out there. It’s good going out there for uni for the day, but you wouldn’t want to live out there. It’s a much nicer than other flats we’ve been in. We’ve got a good backyard; lots of room for activities. It was pretty mean in the summer. The sun room is the highlight of the place. But we have been burgled, like, three times. It stopped when we put an alarm in, though we sometimes set it off ourselves when we arrive home.
We’ve got a tally board with a number of different categories: smoosh – which is sex – PDA, coma, mare, mack – just a pash – trifecta, and sleepover. Trifecta is as bad as it sounds. There are no tallies in that one at the moment, which is good; it involves getting too drunk, pooing your pants, and spewing at the same time. The “half” tallies are a source of some controversy; the “half smoosh”.
We’ve got a flat mum; her cooking is the best part of the flat. She bakes fresh bread for us, and cooks nice yummy dinners for when we get back from rugby training. Sit down, have a wee red wine; it’s nice. Somebody else almost accidentally burned the flat down three times when she decided to take over the cooking; comes home drunk, starts to cook up a feed, then forgets about it.
We kind of turned into nanas a bit this year. Matured, became responsible. We have a massive bucket list to do: a flat warming, red cards. There’s going to be a flat trip to Hanmer, and a ski trip now that Mt. Hutt has snow.
We’re all pretty chilled out; pretty cruisy. It’s definitely better to be in a flat with smaller numbers of girls; lots of girls can get so bitchy. This is good. You get your own space. You need it.
Lincoln’s definitely a lot looser compared to Canterbury. Kind of feral. Boys are real bad at destroying everything in a flat. If there’s a door they’ll just start ripping the panels off it, or putting their head through it. Holes in the walls. Having a content smacking door panels over each other’s heads. The way they dress is a big difference as well; lots of RM Williams. Gumboots are acceptable to wear to uni; when you walk into the library in winter there are rows of red band gumboots sitting outside.
Lincoln is small, and you know everyone, and everyone’s so friendly. Lincoln girls have a bad stereotype, but it’s getting better. Now CPIT has come in it’s boosted the dress code; the boys are pretty stoked. And we are actually intelligent there; we aren’t all dumbarses. Though there are a fuckload of people there that are…
