Amigos Virtuosos

THE LAST PARTY WAS PRETTY COOL, APART FROM THE HOLES IN THE WALL, NOISE CONTROL CONFISCATING ALL OUR STUFF, AND THE DUDE GETTING ARRESTED.

We had to call the police to take the guy away; he was a crazy Russian dude on the piss trying to fight. The holes were unintentional - we found out when fixing them that they’d already been broken; you could see where they’d been patched up. Holes in flat walls are kind of a tradition.

We’ve had a few SpanSoc parties, a few Musoc parties, another SpanSoc party this weekend. The backyard’s tight, but it’s worked. We’ve got space all around the house, and lots of big rooms.

We had a red card, involving a Picnic Race. We got a Picnic bar for everyone, and the last one to finish had to do a five beer bong, the second to last was four, three, two, and the winner only had to do one. But because someone decided to get a Moro Gold instead of a Picnic, he automatically lost. It was great.

The neighbour behind us steals our apples. One day a baked bean tin on a stick came up over the fence, cups an apple, breaks it off. He took like ten apples. We might have to raise up that one bit of fence. The Japanese guy in front is starting to go into Passport photos business. We’ve got two sets of students on either side; the last time we saw one of them was when they were having a party, brought out the chainsaw, and cut down a tree across our driveway.

Couch surfers have been a highlight this year; we’ve had 15-20. The first night we had, like, five - a German couple, two Swedish girls, and a Canadian guy. We got to the stage where we had a zig-zag matrix of couches in the living room. We had two American girls stay straight after the earthquake, and they left us a car, with instructions to sell it and give the money to the Volunteer Army when we were done with it. They also left a chilly bin, camping gear, food, a cellphone, an iPod, lots of good codeine and Panadol and stuff… they were really good to us.

We’re not very good with rosters. We’ve resorted to eating rice on pasta. We definitely debated for awhile which way around it would taste the best. The second time we did it we put soy sauce in the middle to spice it up.

It’s a pretty mean flat. Great company. Very musical; there are about ten guitars around the place. No one gives a shit about anything; it’s very un-anal. It’s like “hey, I’m having a party tonight, there’s going to be 50 people, is that cool?”
