Foo Sans has a lazy susan and its BYO ANYTHING! Bring your own cheap bottle of wine, case of beer or pack breezers if you're a first year. What more do you fucking want?

Emma Crequer and Sas Rhodes explore some of the cities eateries.

Brigittes Espresso Bar
209 Papanui Rd (Corner Pap and Aikmans Road)
Monday 8am – 4pm
Tuesday to Saturday 8am – 10pm
Sunday 9am – 5pm

Tip top café, perfect for those with class and those that want it (Lawsoc). Take your cougars and/or sugar daddies but make sure they pay as this café can get a bit pricey.

Addington Coffee Co-op
297 Lincoln Rd, Addington
Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4pm
Saturday to Sunday 9am – 4pm

Coffee Co-op is a sweet place to chill and relax. No bad language here kids as there are a lot of families present plus the joint is owned by Spreydon Baptist Christians! The food is great, definitely dabble in the peach and ice cream porridge. There can be a decent wait though so take your book or your laundry... for the laundry mat of course. Who hasn't heard of a laundry mat in a coffee shop?

Café Metro
121 Papanui Rd, Merivale
Monday to Wednesday 7am – 9pm
Thursday to Friday 7am – 10pm
Saturday 8.30am – 10pm
Sunday 8.30am – 4.30pm

Metro Café – they welcome gays and heteros as well. Their new location and fit-out is a prime example of post you-know-what architecture. Good place to take a dreamboat on a brunch date. Brunch, that thing in between a hangover pie and McDonald's.

Rocksalt Café
7 Normans Road, Elmwood Village
Monday to Sunday 8am til late

Take your bro after a break-up, you are less likely to run into uni students (the 'ex') here than at any Ilam haunts. Rocksalt offers $18 pizza and tap beer specials Tuesday and Wednesday nights. There's seven different types of pizza including lamb, quattro fromaggi, scallops, chorizo and roast pumpkin. Coupled with beer, it's the guy version of chips, chocolate and a cheesy DVD.

New York Deli
363 Lincoln Road, Addington
Monday to Saturday 7.00am – 8.30pm
Sunday 9.00am – 8.30pm

EDITOR'S PICK: For those of you with taste and money (a third of College House), New York Deli is sandwich heaven. Think subway but with Ciabatta, basil pesto, roast pork and relish like your grandma used to brew. I hate Americans, except when I walk in there. They should have offered Afghanistan New York Deli sandwiches and Osama bin Laden would have been handed over within half an hour.

C4
278 Tuam Street, CBD
Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm

Slink into your uber skinny tight jeans, straighten your hair and apply your eye liner (this applies to girls too). C4 has some of the best baristas in the country, not to mention their own private roastery where they can set you up with your own espresso kit, even if just to empress your Fine Arts friends. If you are a hipster, emo or salty individual and not an Engineering student, this is the place for you. Alternative. Ironic. Contrary.

Foo Sans Chinese Restaurant
6-8 Rountree St, Upper Riccarton
Sunday to Thursday 10.30am - 9.30pm
Friday to Saturday 10.30am – 10.30pm

Foo Sans has a lazy susan and its BYO ANYTHING! Bring your own cheap bottle of wine, case of beer or pack breezers if you're a first year. What more do you fucking want?

Daphne's
398 Riccarton Road, Riccarton
Monday to Friday 11am – 10.30pm

Best Chinese you can get. Menu prices sit around the $16 mark. Order the 'Chicken in house sauce' – it's so good you'll struggle to hide your boner.

Pizzacarto
Waimairi end of Homestead Lane, Ilam
Tuesday to Friday 12pm – 9pm
Saturday and Sunday 5pm – 9pm

Known for excellent gelato and pizzas that cost a little more than average but taste well above par.

Flying Burrito Brothers
77 Main North Road, Northlands Mall
Monday to Friday 12pm – 11pm
Saturday and Sunday 11.30am – 11pm

Many people will be happy to know it still exists after the demise of the town restaurant. Casual dining, good food, and many excellent cocktails. Bring a sober driver.

Big Gary's
249B Riccarton Road, Upper Riccarton
Monday to Friday 5pm – Midnight
Saturday 3pm – Midnight
Sunday 3pm – Midnight

EDITOR'S PICK: Foot-long hot dogs and an old guy in stubbies cooking your chips. Pure heaven on the walk home to your flat late at night.

Captain Ben's
4 Rountree St, Upper Riccarton
Monday to Saturday 11am – 9pm

Everybody loves the Captain. Between chicken burger combos and chocolate explosions, your every cholesterol-filled craving can be met on the way to or from your next lecture.
