President - Vote for one candidate

I like being a student. Everything from scheduling lectures for a sleep in on Monday to ENSOC BBQs on Ilam fields. Or just knowing the friendly faces in class and around campus. I am studying a Master in Engineering and a BCom and now I'd like to give something back as President of the UCSA for 2012.
Next year will be about rebuilding. We've lost study space, venues for relaxing and socialising and places for uni clubs to do what they do best. I believe the UCSA needs to look after us when we need it with quality health and dental care, universal academic support and help when we can't buy food because Studylink has failed again. I worked at the Foundry for four years and know how important it is to have a place for first years to drink and dance and postgrads to sit in the sun on a Friday afternoon.
I have a good feel for how the university works. I run two of the University sports clubs and am a founding member of UC Clubs Co-op. I've also been a class rep and mentor for the past four years. I'm helping to run a free upcoming South Island sport tournament and have a big passion for sport and recreation at Canterbury. The new UC Sport programme is something I have been interested in being involved in, making sure we have top sports teams and clubs and quality facilities for everyone.
My goal is to make sure the UCSA is rebuilt in a form that supports all students. I will stand up for what is best for us, not just UC as an organisation. So consider voting for me at this year's UCSA election to make sure our student association is in capable hands.

Looking forward, the UCSA is in a unique position to influence change. That can only happen with dedicated and transparent representation of you, the student body. My commitment is to ensure the fundamentals of the three core provisions, Advocacy, Clubs and Services, exist and are improved in 2012.
Advocacy: I will ensure that the student body are heard like never before; relevant consultation, representation and transparency are vital to ensuring that students, the vital component, always have their voices heard. I am committed to ensuring that the UCSA provides appropriate welfare support and always asks provocative questions of its partners, regarding pressing issues for students, such as academic integrity and the campus itself.
Clubs: I believe what differentiates UC is its dedication and loyalty to clubs and societies, ensuring phenomenal events for all students! With a bleak-looking social scene in the city, clubs needs considerably more support to guarantee the student social experience is absolutely sustained and improved.
Services: Never appreciated the extent of UCSA's services and facilities until they were gone? My primary objective is to restore key components (like the Foundry), in an innovative and efficient manner, improving the quality of student services for your time at UC. Following that, I see the provision of cheaper and more diverse products as vital.
My aim is to ensure that your student experience, although altered, is as exciting and as fulfilling as it ever could be. There is an opportunity to shape student life for the better and I have the ability to make sure that happens. Vote [JACKSON] for President, and vote [JACKSON RABBITT HORROCKS], because 2012 needs strong leadership.

Who is thirsty? Why isn't there a hung-over student serving me a coffee on a Friday morning? Is the UCSA still a union that is run by students and giving the students what they want? Or are they selling us out?
Every year the UCSA Executive campaigns for cheaper food and drink. Then why is our current UCSA Executive currently trying to off load our remaining food and beverage outlets to companies such as Spotless or Compass? Shouldn't these services be run by the UCSA and its students at a minimum profit and selling basic meals? If the Foundry is outsourced, the student local that offers tasty cold drinks for a good price will be no more. I want the UCSA to be run as an organization serving the students rather than a union out to make profit. I promise that on my watch as UCSA President these UCSA operations will remain owned and operated by the students under a new low cost pricing strategy (including beer).
I want to take the UCSA back to its grassroots; create a student lifestyle on campus that is always buzzing. Reopening the Foundry as a not-for-profit bar is a large step in this process as well as throwing the UCSA behind all the clubs (a personal goal would be to work with ENSOC to bring back the Undie in some form). Let's regularly have free events on campus from lunch time gigs to comedy shows and make campus a place we want to hang out at.
These earthquakes have given the UCSA a fresh start. I want to rebuild and restructure the UCSA the way it should be with student input every step of the way. A union that offers a full range of academic services as well as the true student lifestyle!

Hi there,
My name is William WILLIAM and I'm part of the *WILLIAM, WHITNALL & AINSWORTH* trio. Many of you may remember me from last year's UCSA Election in which I ran for the UCSA Executive and was, gratefully, voted in. For that I would like to thank you for your votes and supports which enable me to serve alongside WHITNALL and AINSWORTH on the Executive board.
This year, UCSA has finally lived up to its reputation as the student-run, student-owned and most importantly student-oriented body. This is exactly the Association that we all want to see and to this day, has consistently been there for you during these challenging times. We have been able to fight for our students' rights by ensuring our voices are heard by the University. For example we were able to have a large amount of the first semester exams cancelled or aegrotated after some heavy negotiations.
My GOAL is to CONTINUE and IMPROVE on what our Association has been delivering this year. I see that as a REALISTIC and SUSTAINABLE model that will represent your needs as students and members of this fine Association.
Serving on the Executives board has been an amazing experience for me as I have been directly involved with the UCSA decision making process. My involvement with the Executive has enabled me to deliver the Shapeshifter Gig at the start of the year, Winter Wonderland Market and UCSA Random Acts of Kindness among other things.
With my BCom/BA background and my experience serving on the UCSA exec, I have the knowledge and the experience to do this.
So vote for WILLIAM for President. *WILLIAM, WHITNALL and AINSWORTH* "sortin' out the riff-raff"

This post is very useful for me, much appreciated! :)
Was it really all that helpful? they're mostly offering up the same stuff as usual
There's little point in just being cynical about it, best thing that can be done is holding those elected to the promises they've made, vague as they might be. It seems like a generally good exec overall for 2012, but that can all change once they actually get in to governance.
