Beaches
Pack a picnic - jumping off the wharf and chilling out on the pontoon between swimming makes for an excellent afternoon.
John Bowden gives us a heads up on what beaches to frequent this summer.
Sumner
How to get there: The number 3 bus from Uni or the exchange
Distinguishable due to the large rock in the middle of the beach and home to a cute little cinema that may or may not be open depending on how shaky it is at the time. Also the site of Christchurch 'Sexy & I Know It' Remake on Youtube.
New Brighton
How to get there: The Metrostar from Uni or 5, 40, and 60 from the exchange
Now set with a backdrop of some of the most quake-fucked areas in Christchurch. Invite that chick you've been trying to get into for a romantic walk at sunset and take in the different coloured lights on the pier as a sure-fire way to get laid.
Taylor's Mistake
How to get there: Drive out through Sumner, up the dodgy bit of road on the hill to Taylor's Mistake Road.
Definitely worth the effort it takes to get there. This beach has great waves, good-looking lifeguards, and is popular with surfers and sunbathers alike.
Corsair Bay
How to get there: The 28 from the exchange to Lyttleton does occassional services out to Rapaki.
A bit more shetlered and shallow, this beach is more of a family affair. The 'No dogs' signs are frequently ignored and I've seen more than one group of local lads bring down a few cheeky bevvies. Pack a picnic - jumping off the wharf and chilling out on the pontoon between swimming makes for an excellent afternoon.
